Artist Statement
With architecture as my muse, I am committed to depicting the ordinary in extraordinary ways. The built environment, combined with a fascination for the life and plight of the "person next door" intrigues me far more than the lives of the mighty. Inside all of us are grand dreams and thoughts which need to be seen and heard. The back yard speaks more c
learly to me than the temples and palaces of the world.
Consequently, I often employ humble themes but utilize exotic fabrics or unusual materials.
The allure of the inner side of the ordinary leads me into an exploration of layering and dimension. I explore ways of creating dimension in my work through surface embellishment which can take the form of transparent overlays, found objects, beads, fabric manipulation or...
The world is an interesting place, I strive to honour this in my work.
